Avid travelers, Jerry, Kevin, and Tomika traveled to U.S. hotspots such as Los Angeles, California; Houston, Texas; Phoenix, Arizona; Jacksonville, Florida; and Las Vegas, Nevada in search of the perfect city to launch their 100% Philadelphia themed restaurant. While in Las Vegas, Jerry received a call from a trusted friend stating that he had the perfect location for their restaurant in the city known to millions as “Hotlanta”. The three immediately caught the first flight they could to Atlanta and shortly thereafter, signed the lease for what is steadily becoming an “A-town” phenomenon.
Founded in December 2009, Philly Favorites, located at 5851 Buffington Road, Suite J in Union City, Georgia, towers as one of the best tasting, most popular eating establishments and hangout to the stars to grace Atlanta in decades. Thoroughly understanding that in order to live up to the world-renowned “Philly cheese steak standard”, cooks from “the Liberty Bell city” would have to be employed to ensure authenticity, is why Jerry and Kevin hired veteran chef Kevin Bailey to head the restaurants cooking operations. Kevin, met Mr. Bailey as a loyal customer to the trendy cheese steak diner where he worked, and promised if he ever opened a restaurant he would make Mr. Bailey or, as he’s affectionately known “Unk”, lead chef. Staying true to his word, Kevin and Jerry relocated Unk to Atlanta and the rest, as they say, is history. Unk brings four decades of fine dining and cheese steak making expertise to Philly Favorites, and along with another Philly native Isheen Bernard, the restaurant’s general manager, who in his own right is a seasoned food industry executive, are two of the key components that have heavily contributed to the eatery’s massive and seemingly overnight success.
Using only the freshest and finest selections of bread, meat, and vegetables shipped daily straight from the city “Rocky Balboa” made famous, comes an authentic, perfectly prepared, mouth-watering mountain of sautéed beef or chicken mixed with just the right amount of melted cheese along with your choice of fried onions and peppers Philadelphia original cheese steak sandwich, the best this side of the Eagle’s Veteran Stadium. Now don’t be fooled, cheese steaks is their name, but making various types of to die for delectables is also Philly Favorite’s game. Offering a slew of Philly standards to include ten types of cheese steaks, nine types of hoagies, ten different wraps, salads, burgers, chicken wings, fries, hand dipped ice cream, tastykake©, and the world famous water ice in several all natural flavors.
Vastly becoming community pillars of righteousness for their noble and steadfast efforts to aid multiple causes like the Haiti Relief Fund, Green Up Atlanta, the United Cancer Society, the Autism Society of America, and Benjamin Banneker High School, where Jerry and Kevin regularly provide free of charge, meals to students attending after school programs, are the indelible attributes that have helped Philly Favorites become a fixture in the Union City and College Park areas. Devout champions for a green society Jerry and Kevin are as serious about recycling used cooking oil to make biofuel as they are about providing five-star customer service to all of Philly Favorites’ patrons, whether dining in or carrying out. Poised to become a national franchise, with future sites already slated for Buckhead, Decatur, Alpharetta, Riverdale, East Point, Lithonia, and Atlantic Station, is what has the restaurant with the slogan “A taste of Philly in Atlanta” rapidly becoming a “favorite” in “Bulldog Nation”.
